Sara Caroline Bridgers has made Oxford home in the short 15 years she has lived here. Moving to Oxford in the first grade from North Carolina, Bridgers quickly developed an entrepreneurial spirit that pervades the competitive Square.
As a sophomore at the University of Mississippi, Bridgers became a small business owner who was sponsored by multiple stores and products in Oxford.
“It just started by knowing people who own local businesses here and them asking me if I wanted to help out with Instagram posts, etc.,” she said.
Bridgers’ work started at a young age making jewelry out of her home as a hobby. She outgrew all the work that came with making jewelry and decided to shut down her small business. When she was accepted into the University of Mississippi, she decided to make her main priority school and no longer pursue making jewelry.
After two years in college she knew it was time to get back to work, and that’s when she decided to partner with her older sister, Alli, 25. They wanted to start a new clothing and accessory business they could own and operate together. The sisters wanted to do something handmade, personalized, and one-of-a-kind. That’s when they decided to launch Sister Moon Designs.
“I just love making things that other people love and want to wear,” Sara Caroline said.
Sister Moon Designs focuses on personalized quotes and sayings on shirts, scarves, etc. The brand has a casual-feel for everyday wear that is cute and fun. They do not strive for perfection in their pieces, which is just how they like it. Each piece is unique with a personalized touch.
The sisters made this idea of a brand become a reality with the launch of products in only six months. Sara Caroline and Alli have made sure to keep the business equal. The shirts and products are embroidered by Alli in Nashville where she resides. The rest of the marketing and business aspects are what Sara Caroline handles locally in Oxford.
Working with family members can be difficult, but they make it look easy. The sisters’ differences are only beneficial to their company as it makes for a larger audience of who will buy the products, they said.
“My side comes in with the marketing and sales part of it. I think we both make up for each other’s weaknesses which is something I love about working together,” Sara Caroline said.
The Bridgers’ dedication to the Sister Moon brand is clearly visible. They hope to continue to grow the brand outside of Oxford.
“I would love for Sister Moon Designs to evolve into a full-time project that my sister and I can do together, however that may look…whether it’s a storefront or an online lifestyle brand. I’m excited to see where it goes,” Alli said.
