The Ole Miss volleyball team announced Thursday the addition of junior transfer Izzy Guzik for the 2019 season. The Rebels now boast four outside hitters to their roster, including AVCA All-Region honoree Emily Stroup, who ranked second in the country last season for kills.
Guzik, a six-rotation player for the Portland Pilots, appeared in all but three sets during her sophomore campaign, tallying 328 kills on the season, averaging nearly three a set. She also recorded 278 digs, 43 blocks, and 25 aces, helping lead Portland, who received votes in the national polls during 2018, to the quarterfinals of the NIVC Tournament.
“With this amazing coaching staff and the awesome girls on the team, it was an easy choice to choose Ole Miss,” Guzik said. “We’re all very hungry to make the NCAA tournament, and with the I already know that with the talent on this team, we are capable to do so. I’m excited for this journey and for our team to make some program history.”
Head Coach Steven McRoberts said he’s excited for Guzik to join the team.
“She brings a lot of experience, has a great arm, and truly wants to be a part of the Ole Miss family,” he said. “We love that she is coming in January to get the most of our strength and conditioning plan and to learn our system over the next eight months. It was important for us to add depth to our outside hitter position this spring, and Izzy will come in and compete for a starting role right off the bat.”
Prior to Portland, Guzik helped guide Westview High School in San Diego to a 2013 state regional and garnered All-American Watch List honors in 2015. Playing for the Coast Volleyball Club, Izzy and crew took a fifth-place finish at the National Championships in the open division, finishing as the second-ranked team in the 17’s category.
