This summer No’ Miss Lacrosse invites the community’s youth to take part in one of the fastest growing sports in America.
The lacrosse club looks to provide players in the North Mississippi area an opportunity to participate, contribute and grow in their knowledge of the sport in a fun and competitive environment.
It is the only summer lacrosse club team in the area that allows all boys from grades 6-12, regardless of skill level, to learn and experience the sport, according to its website.
No’ Miss Lacrosse was established by Matthew Schroeder who played lacrosse in college and went on to coach. This club is not affiliated with a particular county or school, he said.
“I want to bring a new sport to the area that has meant so much to me in my life,” he said. “All players from any school who want to learn lacrosse or play lacrosse can play with my summer team. My hope is to bring lacrosse to this region, grow the game, and hope more schools in the region catch on.”
Schroeder said he hopes this club will be a way for players to gain more experience after playing with the Oxford Lacrosse Club that starts this spring.
“My hope with this program is that players have an experience that is unmatched in the area,” Schroeder said.
No’ Miss Lacrosse will practice at the Oxford-Lafayette Sportsplex on 878 Highway 7 South in Oxford.
The season will run from the beginning of May until the beginning of July. Practices will range from 2-3 times per week and each team will compete in a regional tournament at the end of June or the beginning of July, according to Schroeder.
