Oxford Police’s Maj. McCutchen Appointed Interim Chief
The Oxford Board of Aldermen appointed Maj. Jeff McCutchen to serve as interim chief of the Oxford Police Department while Chief Joey East takes a leave of absence to campaign for the position of Lafayette County sheriff.
His appointment will begin Feb. 1.
“[I have] no doubt that Jeff will do an outstanding job while I am away, along with the support of our upper administration and the entire police department,” East said Friday morning.
McCutchen has served the police department as Operations Major since 2014 overseeing Patrol, investigations and special event details. Prior to that, he held various positions including supervisor over investigations, patrol officer, DUI officer and SWAT Commander for a combined 17 years of service in law enforcement.
He is a graduate of the 257th class of the FBI National Academy and a 2018 graduate of the Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Lafayette Program, receiving the peer-nominated Leadership Award.
McCutchen is married with two children.
“I am so grateful for this opportunity from Chief East and the Mayor and Board,” he said Friday. “I am honored to continue to serve the Lafayette, Oxford and University Community.”
