After serving as the District 2 supervisor for Lafayette County for eight years, Jeff Busby has announced his intent to serve the county in a new capacity.
Busby said he intends to qualify to run for Lafayette County Circuit Court Clerk on Jan. 2 when the qualification period for the 2019 elections opens.
“It’s something I’ve always wanted to do,” Busby said Thursday morning.

District 2 Supervisor Jeff Busby announced his intent to run for Lafayette County Circuit Court Clerk Thursday on his Facebook page.
The office is not an unfamiliar one to him. His mother, Mary Alice Busby, was the Court Clerk for 24 years before retiring eight years ago.
The current Court Clerk is Baretta Mosley who said she is retiring at the end of her term in 2019 and won’t be seeking re-election.
“I will miss everybody and the job, but it’s time,” she said Thursday.
There will be several elections for county positions in 2019, including all seats on the Board of Supervisors, sheriff, coroner, chancery clerk, tax assessor/collector and others.
Busby, who owns University Sporting Goods along with former Oxford mayor Pat Patterson, ran for the District 2 supervisor seat eight years ago after his mother’s retirement.
“I wanted to serve this community but I wanted to prove myself to the people of this community,” Busby said. “Being Court Clerk has always interested me. I basically grew up in the office and I feel I had a pretty good teacher.”
Busby said he decided to run for the Circuit Court Clerk position after learning of Mosley’s intent to retire.
“Baretta has done a wonderful job and I appreciate everything she’s done for this community,” Busby said.
