Roy Appointed to State Master Gardener Board of Directors

Lafayette County resident Sandra Roy has been appointed to the State Master Gardener Board of Directors for 2019. She will join the 16-member board to represent Lafayette County for a three year term.

“I’m excited and a little bit scared to death,” Roy said, laughing. “(The newly appointed staff) is a bunch of go-getters and we’re excited about thinking of ways to reach other Master Gardeners in our district to provide services to them.”
The Master Gardener Program is a volunteer organization through the Mississippi State Extension Service and the State Master Gardener Association. In Lafayette County, the Master Gardeners provide both educational programs and horticultural services throughout the county.
The program allows community members to gain horticultural expertise at a low cost, meet other avid gardeners, share gardening experiences, get connected to the community, and belong to a well-respected and educational organization, the website states.
Roy, along with others, will represent the northeast district of Mississippi which is comprised of 22 counties.
“Our goals on the state level are to increase communication with master gardeners in our district and encourage more participation to become Master Gardeners,” she said.
Roy said she would like for all residents in Lafayette County interested in partnering with the local Master Gardener program to contact the Mississippi State Extension Service office at 662-234-4451 for more information. A new training program for Master Gardener interns begins in February 2019.
