Ole Miss head coach Matt Luke met with the media Monday afternoon as he discussed how the Rebels are looking ahead to Thanksgiving’s match against Mississippi State for the annual Egg Bowl.
Ole Miss had a short week to bounce back from the 36-29 loss at Vanderbilt where a touchdown catch by junior wide receiver A.J. Brown was overturned in overtime.
“We felt like he scored…(the SEC) stuck by their rule,” Luke said. “We have to move forward to Mississippi State.”
This will be the last time this group of seniors will get to play in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in front of Rebel Nation.
“They fight for each other, they fight for Ole Miss and everything that they’ve given,” Luke said. ”I’m grateful for these guys and what they mean to not only me personally, but also this program.”
Ole Miss enters the Egg Bowl with several injuries, the most recent being senior center Sean Rawlings’ high ankle sprain he suffered in the opening plays against the Commodores. Wide receiver DeMarcus Lodge remains on the injury report, but Luke projects he will play on Thursday.
“(Rawlings) won’t practice this week, but we’ll give it a go in the game,” Luke said. “He’ll be a game-time decision.”
Mississippi State rolls into Oxford with a veteran defense and talented offense.
“They do a good job of bringing pressure, a lot of five-man pressure and constantly putting pressure on you,” Luke said. “We have to do a really good job of handling the pressure and then applying some pressure of our own.”
The Rebels and the Bulldogs kick off the 91st meeting of the Battle of the Golden Egg at 6:30 p.m. on ESPN.
