The Ole Miss Rebels dropped a 36-29 heart breaker in overtime to the Vanderbilt Commodores under the lights of Music City Saturday night.
Ole Miss (5-6, 1-6) had a touchdown overturned in overtime on a third down play to junior wide receiver A.J. Brown. The extra point would have tied the game, but the pass was called incomplete. The Rebels could not convert on fourth down.
Brown finished the game with nine receptions for 210 yards and a touchdown in the game.
A defensive struggle in the first half turned into an offensive shootout in the second half as a total of 40 points were put on the board after a 13-12 Ole Miss advantage at halftime.
The Rebels quarterback Jordan Ta’amu had a career night against the Commodores as he passed for 455 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. His other touchdown went to DeMarcus Lodge in the fourth quarter and became the final touchdown for Ole Miss on a nine-yard reception.
Lodge ended the game with nine catches for a total of 117 yards and one score.
Ole Miss’ field goal kicker Luke Logan went 5-for-5 in the game with his longest boot of the night at 35 yards.
Coach Matt Luke’s squad lost senior Sean Rawlings to injuries early in the game and Lodge played through an injury at the end of the game.
Vanderbilt was led on the field by quarterback Kyle Shurmur who went 22-of-34 for 191 yards and 3 touchdowns against the Landshark defense.
Ole Miss returns to action for the final time on Thanksgiving in the annual Egg Bowl as they host Mississippi State. Kickoff is slated for 6:30 p.m. on ESPN.
