Oxford Girl Scouts, DAR Hold Flag Retiring Ceremony
Members of the Girls Scouts Heart of the South and the David Reese chapter of the Daughter’s of the American Revolution held a flag retirement ceremony at the Oxford Pavilion on Sunday afternoon.
The ceremony gave honor to worn and tattered flags, that are no longer in good condition to be raised. The flags are cut into strips that represent the 13 colonies and the field of starts are burned.
The Oxford Fire Department was on hand to help with the fire pit and Taps was played on trumpet to end the ceremony.
