The Oxford Chargers close out the regular season on Friday, Nov. 2 as they host the Tupelo Golden Wave at Bobby Holcomb Field. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.

Oxford (8-2, 5-1) is coming off a nail-biting 23-22 victory over Hernando last week on the road. The Chargers special teams played a big part in the field position game, according to head coach Chris Cutcliffe.

“I was proud of the resiliency we showed last week,” he said. “Our defense stepped up with some timely stops in the fourth quarter and the offense got the ball in the end zone when we needed it.”

Oxford has an opportunity to host the first round of the 6A playoffs. The only district loss for the Chargers this came to undefeated Horn Lake.

“Our players are hungry to achieve that goal and are focused on a really good Tupelo team,” Cutcliffe said.

Tupelo (7-3, 4-2) dropped its last game 35-10 to Horn Lake.

The Golden Wave’s senior quarterback Stephon McGlaun has completed 38 of 63 attempts passing this season for 522 total yards and two passing touchdowns. He has averaged 174.0 yards per game passing and 200 all-purpose total yards. His teammate, senior Jaquerrious Williams, has carried the ball 1,586 yards for 22 touchdowns this season.

“Tupelo is an extremely talented group and plays hard-nosed and disciplined football,” Cutcliffe said.

The Golden Wave scores an average of 20.8 points per game, while the Chargers are putting up 27.4 points per game.
