Thanks to a strong cold front moving into Lafayette County Wednesday, several local subdivisions and neighborhoods will be welcoming trick-or-treaters tonight.
The city of Oxford announced Monday that it does not change the date of Halloween, despite weather conditions but neighborhoods can decide when to welcome children at their doors for sweet treats.
The list of subdivisions known to Hottytoddy.com at this time that will be holding Halloween Trick-or-Treating tonight, Tuesday, includes: South Oaks, Grand Oaks, Windsor Falls, Cumberland Place, Wellsgate, Woodson Ridge, Shelbi’s Place, Southpoint, Northpoint and The Lakes.
According to Twelve Oaks Facebook page, the subdivision will keep with the traditional Oct. 31 date for trick-or-treating.
The Halloween Spooktacular on the Downtown Square is still scheduled for Wednesday night. Any updates will be on Family Crisis Services of Northwest Mississippi, Inc.’s Facebook page and shared to the various group pages, according to Director LeeAnn Griffin.
Oxford Emergency Management Director Jimmy Allgood said the National Weather Service is reporting a 60 percent chance of showers Wednesday after 1 p.m.
“Later Wednesday night, there is currently a 100 percent chance of thunderstorms, but we don’t have an exact time on that yet,” Allgood said.
Some of the thunderstorms may be severe as the incoming cold front collides with the warmer Gulf air that moved into Oxford Monday.
Allgood said the NWS will be issuing an updated forecast later today.
