This season, the Oxford Chargers varsity football team is not only excelling on the gridiron but also getting the job done in the classroom. During the first nine weeks of the fall semester the team had a cumulative GPA of 3.17.
Oxford has taken care of business on and off the field this season with a 7-2 overall record and a 4-1 mark in district play.
“I am very proud of the hard work our players have put into making that happen,” Oxford head coach Chris Cutcliffe said.
Superintendent Brian Harvey mentioned at the school board meeting on Monday night how phenomenal it is to have academic success for a sports program.
“That just doesn’t happen and it goes to the effort those coaches are putting in to help those students,” Harvey said.
The Chargers return to action on Friday night as they travel up Interstate 55 to take on the Hernando Tigers. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
