Ole Miss senior quarterback Jordan Ta’amu has been tabbed to the watch list for the 2018 Manning Award. Representatives from the Allstate Sugar Bowl made the announcement Thursday, Oct. 18.
The Manning Award, created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in honor of the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning, is the only quarterback award that includes the candidates’ bowl performances in its balloting.
After announcing 30 quarterbacks to watch during the preseason, the Manning Award opted to add 15 more QBs and increase its focus players based on the many outstanding performances during the first half of the year. While these players have been added to the watch list, every quarterback in the nation remains eligible to win the honor.
The Pearl City, Hawaii native leads the SEC in passing yards with 2,298. Ta’amu was named the SEC Co-Offensive Player of the Week after completing 528 yards of offense and three touchdowns against the Razorbacks last Saturday night.
The senior currently ranks 10th all-time in career passing yards for the Rebels with 3,980.
Finalists for the Manning Award will be determined by a selected panel of national media covering college football, as well as each of the Mannings. That list will be released on Thursday, Nov. 29 and the winner is scheduled to be announced following the College Football Playoff National Championship.
