Sugary sweet candy is undeniably the crux of Halloween season. However, trick-or-treaters in Mississippi might be surprised by the types of candy they find in their jack-o-lanterns this year.
Candyshop.com—an online company that provides quality bulk candy at wholesale prices—ranked 3 Musketeers as the top Halloween candy for Mississippi for the third year in a row.
The ranking was based on sales per pound that the candy company sold. This year, Mississippians bought 115,314 pounds in 2018 leading up to the spooky holiday.
Although the chocolate wrapped whipped nougat took first place, Snickers (99, 497 pounds) and Butterfinger (52,733 pounds) took second and third place, respectively.
While Mississippians allegedly love their 3 Musketeers, the top three candies for the U.S. for 2018 were Skittles, M&M’s and Snickers, respectively.
The candy sales data has been collected consistently over the past 11 years of sales (2007-2017) during the months leading up to Halloween. In order to figure out each state’s most popular Halloween candy, Candyshop.com broke the sales down by each state.
This year Halloween candy consumers are expected to spend more than $9 billion on festivities, according to the National Retail Federation. From costumes, decorations and treats, Americans are expected to spend $2.6 billion on candy alone, the report stated.
The jury is still out on whether Mississippians love or hate 3 Musketeers, but be prepared to see an overhaul of nougat candies at the bottom of trick-or-treater Halloween bags.
