The Ole Miss Rebels could not knock off No. 5 LSU at Tigers Stadium on Saturday night falling 45-16.
Ole Miss (3-2, 0-2) jumped on the scoreboard first on a 30-yard field goal by Luke Logan.
LSU quickly answered with 28 unanswered points started by a 21-yard pass connection by Joe Burrow to wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase for the first touchdown. In the closing minute of the first quarter, the Tigers running back Nick Brossette found paydirt from four yards out.
In the second quarter, LSU added two more touchdowns—one on the ground and one in the air to go up 28-3. LSU’s defense would not allow the Rebels to score until the closing seconds of the half as Logan hit a 17-yarder.
The Landshark defense came up the second half with a turnover that the offense took advantage of as Jordan Ta’amu and the offense marched down the field for a one yard scamper by Scottie Phillips.
The Tigers answered by going 67 yards in five plays, culminating with the second touchdown connection between Burrow and Jefferson to stretch the lead to 35-13. Ole Miss answered back with a 51-yard drive that ended in a career-long 40-yard field goal by Logan.
Ta’amu finished the game throwing for 178 yards in the game and 11 yards on the ground. Phillips rushed for 96 yards and a touchdown on the night.
Ole Miss returns to the gridiron on Saturday as they host Louisiana Monroe for homecoming. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m.
