Though the string of summer music festivals have come and gone, festivals goers can rally once more during the fall at Mempho Music Festival Oct. 6-7.
The 2018 festival, held at Shelby Farms Park, 20 miles from downtown Memphis, features a variety of popular bands and musical artists including Post Malone, Beck, Pheonix, Nas and Janelle Monaé.
MemphoFest officials recently released its late night set list, ensuring the music will continue even after the big names are gone. On the list for Saturday, Oct. 6, is Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe presenting Eat a Bunch of Peaches. Then the Mempho All-stars kick off the ending festivities Sunday, Oct. 7.
Kendall Deflin, director of communications for the festival, said Mempho All-Stars is the continuation of a tradition they began during the inaugural MemphoFest.
“Steel guitarist Robert Randolph will lead the ship bringing together a stellar group of musicians (Isaiah Sharkey from Snarky Puppy, Karl Denson from The Rolling Stones, MonoNeon from Prince’s band, and session drummer Nate Smith) for a late night boogie, promising special guests to sit-in and collaborate throughout the night,” Deflin said. “Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe will perform their tribute to the Allman Brothers Band’s seminal album, Eat A Peach, on Friday night.
She said the Mempho media team is “psyched” about these two late-night shows, as they invite their fellow jam band lovers to come join.
