College Panhellenic Sorority Recruitment’s week long event begins Sunday, Sept. 23 at 9 a.m. at The University of Mississippi with hundreds of potential new members (PNM’s) enrolled.
Many current members of sororities are excited to kickoff the week and meet tons of new recruits on campus. President of Pi Beta Phi Karlie Guta says her anticipation for Sunday is high.
“It is all people are talking about in the house,” Guta said. “Everyone is anxious and excited to meet all the potential new members on Sunday. I am so ready for the day to be here. Our members have worked so hard and I’m ready to see their hard work pay off.”
Guta adds that members of her sorority and others sororities on campus have been preparing for recruitment week for months.
“So many hours go into preparing our active members for recruitment. In the spring, we start teaching the process to our freshmen pledge class,” Guta said. “Then in August, we have Camp Pi Phi that lasts a week. Everyone is there Monday through Friday practicing together for about six hours a day. In the fall, we have practice twice a week for two hours. There are so many hours that go into preparation, but getting a great group of new members on Bid Day makes all the hours worth it. “
Throughout the week of recruitment, the schedule breaks down like this for active members and potential new members:
Sunday, Sept. 23 — Greek Day: PNM’s visit all 11 sororities on campus
Monday, Sept. 24 — Philanthropy Day: PNM’s visit up to 8 sororities
Tuesday, Sept. 25 — Philanthropy Day: PNM’s visit up to 8 sororities
Thursday, Sept. 27 — Sisterhood Day: PNM’s visit up to 5 sororities
Friday, Sept. 28 — Sisterhood Day: PNM’s visit up to 5 sororities
Saturday, Sept. 29 — Preference: PNM’s visit up to 2 sororities
Sunday, Sept. 30 — Bid Day
With a busy week ahead, Guta says she believes sorority recruitment is one of the most positive things young women of this generation can be a part of.
“I believe joining a sorority is one of the best decisions I have ever made,” Guta said. “There are so many positive reasons to join. A sorority gives its members so many opportunities to grow as individuals. My sorority empowers me and inspires me to be the best version of myself every single day.”
