Ed Meek: I Ask UM to Remove my Name from the School of Journalism and New Media

UM Donor Ed Meek has issued an official apology and makes one request to the School of Journalism and New Media: Take my name off the building.

Dean of the School of Journalism & New Media, Will Norton, confirmed with hottytoddy.com he did receive the apology via email today.

“Today I have asked the University of Mississippi to remove my name from the School of Journalism and New Media,” Meek wrote in the email. “My desire then and now is for the School of Journalism to be a global leader in Journalism education. I recognize that the attachment of my name to the School of Journalism is no longer in the best interest of that vision.

In the message of the Facebook post in question, Meek linked a “3 percent decline in enrollment…and real estate values will plummet as will tax revenue,” to two photos of black women on the Square. This association drew criticism from hundreds of commenters throughout the post’s short lifetime. However, the post was later deleted.

Meek’s email comes in response to the School of Journalism and New Media faculty’s statement asking Meek within three days to request his name be removed from the building.
