One of the world’s most expensive library cards can be found in Oxford, Mississippi.
The Library Sports Bar released the sale date of their annual Library Cards Monday Aug. 27 that created a line snaking exponentially around the Square.
A Library Card is sold for $100 and admits a patron free cover into the bar for the full calendar year until Dec. 31, 2019. The Library Sports Bar sells an unlimited amount of cards until 10 p.m. tonight.
Hundreds of Ole Miss students lined the sidewalks to obtain one of these gems. Many said they thought it was justifiable to wait more than an hour in the 90 degree.
“I feel the need, along with many of my friends, to pay $100 now for my cover to avoid gauged prices on high demand weekends,” law student Matt Dellinger said. “It’s better than paying anywhere from $60-80 on one game day Saturday night to get into the bar.”
“I am here mainly because this will save me money in the long run. We are all poor college students and this is the best deal,” senior Michelle Riviere said. “I think this is the bar as seniors in college that we will be coming to the most, on football Saturdays or coming here throughout the week with friends. It is an overall fun atmosphere in the bar, and that to me makes it worth the price of the card.”
A large portion of the revenue made from the Library Cards will go toward the Ole Miss Hockey team, team officials said.
