The Oxford Chargers travel down I-55 Friday night to take on the Grenada Chargers. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
Oxford (0-1) looks to get back on track from the “Little Egg Bowl” after Starkville won 56-7.
“We always talk about this in the non-district schedule as truly taking these one week at a time,” OHS head coach Chris Cutcliffe said. “Last week is done. We addressed some things that we need to get better at and issues we need to improve.”
Grenada (1-1) is coming off a 40-8 victory over Cleveland Central. The team rushed for a total of 225 yards as senior Dontavious Shipp carried the ball six times for 94-yards and averaged 15.7-yards a touch. His teammate, junior Demarquese Gibson, scored two touchdowns in 90-yards of rushing.
“They have a power rushing attack. We have to be very consistent defensively and have to tackle well,” Cutcliffe said.
Grenada quarterback, junior Abbott Hankins, threw for 83-yards and had two touchdowns against Cleveland Central as he found Christian Wortham and Emmanuel Forbes in the endzone.
“Grenada is always one of the most physical teams on our schedule,” Cutcliffe said. “You’re going to have a tough game on your hands with a tough mindset on both sides of the ball. (Grenada) has a talented running back. It will be a challenge for us.”
