The wait for the 2018 college football season is finally over as it’s officially game week.
Head Coach Matt Luke addressed the media in his first weekly press conference of the year on Monday to talk about what challenges lie ahead for the Rebels against the Red Raiders.
“We will find out a lot about our team right off the bat,” Luke said. “(Tech) has 10 starters coming back on defense. A defense that led the Big 12 in turnovers with 29.”
“They are really physical inside with (Jordyn) Brooks and (Dakota) Allen and have two physical safeties,” he said.
Wide receiver A.J, Brown performed well at practice on Sunday, along with Braylon Sanders and DeMarcus Lodge, Luke said.
The Red Raiders are known for having an air raid offense, but Luke said he anticipates them running the ball more on game day.
“They are going to try and run the ball early and establish the run,” Luke said. “I think any team is going to try and attack a weakness, and we are going to have to prove we can stop the run early.”
On Saturday, Sept. 1, Ole Miss takes on Texas Tech in Houston for the Advocare Texas Kickoff at 11 a.m. on ESPN. Fans can watch all the action on ESPN or listen to the play-by-play on the Ole Miss Radio Network.
