Identical twins and local authors Katherine and Margaret King are inviting all of Oxford to be extras in a new music video that will be filmed on the downtown Square around the Lafayette County Courthouse.

The Kings have published three novels, “Y’all Twins?,” “Which is Which?” and “Our Josephine,” and three children’s books, “The Backyard Campout,” “BOO!” and “Kicking and Screaming.”

The twins have dabbled in rap, promoting their books and using their talents to help local charities.

More recently, they wrote the lyrics for a song called, “Color Blind.” They collaborated with composer Geron Davis who wrote the music for the song.

Nashville artist Trea Edwards has recorded the song that will be released on his new CD.

“Color Blind is a song about respect one person has for another regardless of skin color,” said Margaret King. “The message is: Live by the Golden Rule and it will guide your heart with acts of kindness. So if you close your eyes, you’re Color Blind. We’re all the same with love as our light.”

Katherine King, known to most as Kat, said Oxford is the perfect place to fill the video because of its diverse population.

The video will be shot on Sept. 2 at 2 p.m. on the grounds of the Lafayette County Courthouse. The goal is to have 200-300 people stand around the courthouse holding hands. The video will be shot using a drone.

“We want hundreds of people participating of all nationalities and races,” Margaret King said. “Just show up at City Hall at 2 p.m. and we will disperse the crowd around the inner circle of the courthouse.”

On Tuesday, the Oxford Board of Aldermen approved allowing the inner circle of the Square to be closed for an hour to allow the filming of the music video.

“I’ve heard the song and it’s something everyone in Oxford can be proud of,” said Mayor Robyn Tannehill.
