Lafayette Commodores Unveil New NFL Concussion Technology
This season, the Lafayette Commodores are introducing cutting-edge NFL concussion technology to help get athletes safely get back into the game. The technology is the first of its kind in the state of Mississippi.
XLNTbrain Sport, a high-tech concussion diagnostic and recovery technology program used by the NFL and Power 5 college teams, will be on the field alongside the Commodores this fall.
The concussion software uses balance and neuro-cognitive testing to decisively diagnose concussions and personalize treatment for each athlete based upon the injury sustained. The technology was a gift from the team of doctors and sports medicine experts at Oxford Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine.
The Commodores are heading into their second season in Class 5A competition and head coach Micheal Fair told HottyToddy.com he wants what’s best for the athletes.
“We always feel like our kids deserve the best, so we think it is our job as coaches to help get them that,” Fair said.
Dr. Daniel Boyd of Oxford Orthopaedics who has treated patients at professional, collegiate and high school levels said often high school athletes are underserved when they suffer head trauma.
“Our high school athletes deserve the same level of care that NFL and our college players receive,” he said.
Vance Holland of Endurance Physical Therapy and team trainer for the Commodores, said this technology can provide decisive answers during a stressful time.
“If a student receives a sports head injury, the medical team will begin comprehensive assessments right on the sideline,” he said.
Based upon the success of the XLNTbrain Sport program with Lafayette High School, Dr. Boyd said he hopes to offer this technology to other area schools.
