Ten Ole Miss student-athletes finished a successful summer learning program last week in their prospective fields as a part of the Ole Miss Athletics Summer Training Program.

The mission of the Ole Miss Student-Athlete Development program is to challenge student-athletes to be lifelong learners while pursuing continuous improvement academically, socially, personally and professionally during and beyond their careers as student-athletes.
Each student-athlete gave a short presentation, which highlighted their experience during the summer training program and explained what skills they learned that can help them in their careers.
“We are thrilled with the experience that our student-athletes have gained this summer while interning with local businesses,” said Assistant Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Enhancement, Dr. Jennifer Saxon. “It is vital for our student-athletes to explore their career interests prior to graduation so that they are prepared for the next step in their professional journeys. This experience would not be possible without our partnerships in the Oxford Community and the UM Career Center.”
Participating were D.K. Buford (Football; Oxford Park Commission), Michael Fitzsimmons (Baseball; Action Auto MS), Connor Green (Baseball; Promatura Group, LLC), Randi Loudin (Rifle; Visit Oxford), Marnie Merritt (Soccer; Chick-Fil-A), Leah Mulkey (Volleyball; Chicken Salad Chick), Sean Rawlings (Football; Oxford-Lafayette Economic Development Foundation), Jordan Sims (Football; Oxford Park Commission), Emily Stroup (Volleyball; Baptist Memorial Hospital) and Caitlin Wernentin (Volleyball; Oxford Park Commission).
“My experience has been extremely beneficial,” Rawlings said. “Prior to my internship, I had very little work experience in my desired field. The internship gave me insight into careers that require the skills to be successful in the business world. I can’t thank the program enough for placing me in a location, such as the Economic Development Foundation, that furthered the knowledge necessary to be successful.”
