The Mississippi Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal wreck that claimed the life of a Byhalia man Sunday afternoon.
The incident happened at about 2 p.m. near Paris, according to MHP. The report states a 2016 Nissan SUV, driven by Amy Sullivan, 36, of Pittsboro, was traveling south on Highway 9 West when a 2001 Toyota, driven by James Timothy Oxendine, 60, traveling north, entered into the southbound lane and collided head-on with Sullivan’s vehicle.
Lafayette County Coroner Rocky Kennedy said Oxendine died at the scene.
Sullivan was transported by ambulance to Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi and her three passengers, all minors, were transported by private vehicle to be checked out at the hospital.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation, according to MHP Capt. Joseph Miller.
