A new addition to Lafayette High School is catching the attention of all who pull onto Commodore Drive and head toward to the football stadium.
The new Jumbotron sits adjacent to the field house at the back end zone of William L. Buford stadium where LHS shines its Friday night lights. The addition to the stadium will bring a whole new atmosphere to the Commodore football game day experience, said LHS head football coach Michael Fair.
The video board stands 20 feet tall and 35 feet wide.
The LHS football program was searching for a way to raise money, and they found it in the Jumbotron, Fair said.
“We are busting at the seams and our school district does not have the funds to build a new facility,” he said. “We are selling sponsorships for advertising opportunities [on the Jumbotron] and it has been a huge success so far. It has far succeeded our expectations, and it hasn’t even been up a year yet. A lot of people are getting on board with it.”
Superintendent Adam Pugh reiterated the need for a new school and facilities at the July 2 Lafayette County School District meeting saying, “The entire district is at capacity with students.”
LHS is going into its second year at the 5A classification level.
“We always feel like our kids deserve the best so we think it is our job as coaches to help get them that,” Fair said. “The Jumbotron is going to help us get to where we want to be.”
