Ole Miss Women's Hoops Hosts TCU in SEC/Big 12 Challenge
Ole Miss women’s basketball team will play host to the TCU Horned Frogs inside the Pavilion Nov. 29 as part of the 2018 SEC/Big 12 Challenge. This matchup was announced by both conferences on Monday.
All-time, the Rebels are a perfect 3-0 against TCU, with the last contest coming on March 18, 2007, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in Hartford, Connecticut. Ole Miss prevailed, 88-74, the first victory on a journey that saw the Rebels advance to the Elite Eight and take down the defending national champions, Maryland, in the second round. Ole Miss opened the 1993-94 season at TCU (W, 82-67; Nov. 26, 1993) and hosted the Horned Frogs in Oxford the following year in 1994-95 (W, 95-56; Dec. 2, 1994).
TCU is coming off a historic campaign in 2017-18, during which the Horned Frogs finished 23-13 – their best record since 2007-08. TCU ripped off a program record seven-game Big 12 winning streak from Jan. 7 to Jan. 30, a run that included back-to-back top-25 wins over No. 7 Texas and No. 15 West Virginia. The Horned Frogs also recorded their deepest postseason foray in program history, advancing to the WNIT semifinal, where they fell to eventual champions, Indiana.
The Challenge started in 2016-17 with the SEC holding an 11-9 edge over the Big 12. Each season, 10 institutions from the SEC will square off against all 10 schools from the Big 12. The format includes five home games on campus sites for each conference per season, and teams will not face the same opponent twice.
Ole Miss took part in this Challenge once before when they traveled to No. 16 West Virginia on Dec. 4, 2016 (66-61 L).
This contest will be the first following the Rebels’ trip to the U.S. Virgin Islands for the 2018 Paradise Jam, where Ole Miss will play against UConn (Nov. 22), Purdue (Nov. 23) and St. John’s (Nov. 24).
