The Yoknapatawpha Arts Council (YAC) hosted its second Goodnight Market Thursday, July 12, at the Old Armory Pavilion.
The market consisted of the Mississippians Jazz Ensemble, art vendors, activities for children and On a Roll! food truck serving gourmet egg rolls to the LOU community. The event is to highlight the diverse resources and talents of the Oxford community, according to Wayne Andrews, director of YAC.
He said the Goodnight Market committee organizes these events to mix cultural programming with community building.
“The events create an opportunity to build a sense of community as families can bring their kids to play while enjoying music, food and unique products from our community,” he said.
One of the vendors at the event was Cassidy Broadaway, owner of Board and Brush—located at 1525 University Ave. in the Corner Shopping Mall—said the event was a great success and overall fun to attend.
“I personally got to engage with several new faces to talk about my business, as well as look at other vendors that were there too,” Broadway said.
There is no fee to participate as a vendor at the market event. The only cost for vendors is a 10 percent sales donation, which goes to YAC to continue programs, entertainment and equipment for the Old Armory Pavilion.
“It is less a fundraiser and more a community builder,” Andrews said.
YAC will announce its third Goodnight Market later this year.
