A hearing to determine if there is enough evidence to arrest and formally charge a former LHS math teacher has been scheduled, according to Lafayette County Circuit Clerk Baretta Mosley.
On June 11, the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department, in conjunction with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations, filed charges against Molly Wray, 27, of Oxford for allegedly enticing a child to meet for sexual purposes.
The probable cause hearing is set for 2 p.m., July 16 in front of Circuit Court Judge John A. Gregory at the Lafayette County Courthouse.
The alleged victim was 17 years old at the time of the reported incident.
On June 4, the sheriff’s department received a report from Lafayette School District Superintendent Adam Pugh concerning a report made to him about a teacher engaging in improper conduct with a male student.
A probable cause hearing is the state’s warrant process when allegations of misconduct are brought against a figure of authority, such as a teacher or law enforcement officer. Much like a grand jury, law enforcement officers will present evidence before the judge to determine if it’s sufficient enough to issue a warrant for Wray’s arrest.
Wray has since resigned from her position at Lafayette High School, according to Pugh.
