“Presenting Princess Shaw” will be screened Monday, July 16 at 6:30 pm at the Burns Belfry Museum and Multicultural Center. The screening is free and part of the Oxford Film Festival’s Monday Movies series.
“Presenting Princess Shaw” is the true story of an aspiring musician, Samantha Montgomery, down on her luck, who inspired internationally famous YouTube artist Kutiman to create a magical collaboration that would bring her music to a whole new audience, according to her website. This film shows the power of music and how different subjects, or in this case, talents can mix quite well.
The Magnolia Pictures synopsis explains by day, Samantha Montgomery cares for the elderly in one of New Orleans’s toughest neighborhoods. By night, she writes and sings her own songs as Princess Shaw on her confessional YouTube channel.
A discussion will follow after the screening July 16. The event is supported by the Mississippi Humanities Council.
