Ole Miss Graduate and Former Lt. Governor Brad Dye Dies at 84

Brad Dye, who was lieutenant governor longer than anyone else in Mississippi history, died Sunday at age 84 from respiratory failure, the AP reports.

His son, Dr. Ford Dye, says his father died Sunday at a hospice in Ridgeland from respiratory failure.
The University of Mississippi established the Brad Dye Public Service Scholarship Program in 2009 that provides financial support and enables students to engage in service-learning opportunities and public service internships in government or private agencies, domestically or abroad.
“The scholarship is to be given in Brad Dye’s name to honor his career in public service to his community, state and nation,” Richard Forgette, professor of political science, said in a previous interview. “A UM graduate, Mr. Dye served as lieutenant governor of Mississippi for three terms. He is the only person in state history to hold that position for 12 consecutive years.”
Funeral services for Dye are planned Thursday at Christ United Methodist Church in Jackson.
