The Oxford LeapFrog program hosts its annual Firecracker Bash this Thursday, June 28 at The Lyric. Doors open at 7 p.m.
LeapFrog is an after-school tutoring and enrichment program for at-risk 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders in the Oxford city and Lafayette County schools. The event is LeapFrog’s main fundraiser to raise awareness and finances for the program, said Teresa Adams, LeapFrog’s director.
The event will host Soul Shocker, a Memphis band, as its main musical performance. At 8:45 p.m., the 140 LeapFrog students will perform an intermission performance.
Included in the night’s activities is a silent auction and the crowning of Mr. and Mrs. America. The crowning is the program’s special event to raise money throughout the night, while including LOU community who might not have a direct connection to LeapFrog, Adams said.
“[LeapFrog} is looking forward to the students’ performance and the crowing because this year former director Kathy Knight is one of the nominees,” she said.
Food will be provided by Bubba Gross BBQ, sides by Elizabeth Heiskell and desserts by The Cakery. Bottomless beer cups by Jackson Beer Company will be available for purchase.
Tickets can be purchased at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church’s main office or at the doors of The Lyric for $30.
