As the work day slowly fades away and office doors come to a close, Oxonians scurry to find a relaxing remedy for the busy 9 to 5.
Many flock to The Square, hoping to snag a seat on one of the many balconies that overlook the historic district to grab a cocktail during happy hour.
However, here are the places we recommend that offer just as satisfying balconies and front porches with happy hours for everyone:
Mugshots, Monday-Friday 2 p.m. – 6 p.m.
Located on Jackson Avenue, Mugshots offers burgers, fries, beers and a covered patio. The restaurant recently revamped their menu to add an additional few items.
Mugshots Manager Chrissie Sims said one of the most popular new items is the Mac’n’Cheese Burger. Smothered with Mac’n’Cheese, the burger is pattied in between two grilled cheese sandwiches.
One can’t have a delicious, cheesy burger without something to wash it down with afterward. Mugshots offers $3 wells and $6 domestic pitchers, along with $3 domestic bottled beers all day.

Papito’s Mexican Grill, All Day:
Located in the shopping center next to Walmart is Papitos Mexican Grill that offers 2 for 1 margaritas all day, every day. They pair exceptionally well with the fajitas. Papito’s now offers an outdoor seating area, as well.
Gus’s Fried Chicken, Wednesday Special:
There’s nothing more southern and delicious than fried chicken. Tucked right off of North Lamar, Gus’s offers an open patio and $1 domestic beers every Wednesday night.
Snackbar, Monday-Saturday 4 p.m.- 6 p.m.

If you aren’t up for traveling too far away from The Square, Snackbar is located in the Midtown Shopping Center on North Lamar. Snackbar has a front porch and offers a variety of happy hour specials.
For drink specials, the “English Hunt Club” offers $2 domestic beers, $3 draft beers, $4 house wines and $5 cocktails.
Nothing pairs better with a cocktail or beer than oysters. Snackbar offers $1.50 oysters that are paired with three different toppings.
