Ole Miss is currently undergoing several construction projects on campus including modifications to the Student Union, Johnson Commons East and Guyton Drive.
The Student Union began construction in fall of 2016 and is slated to officially open January 2019. The original 97,600 square foot Union will almost double in size with the new 60,000-square-foot add on.
The renovations will include an extended student lounge, dedicated student organization space, new administrative offices and the Center for Inclusion and Cross-Cultural Engagement, according to Bradley Baker, director of the Ole Miss Student Union.
“The renovation also includes a chamber room with theater-style seating, as well as eight meetings rooms ranging 400 to 2,540 square-feet,” Baker said.
The university has also undergone construction to make the campus more pedestrian friendly. The framework for renovations consists of options including transit, bicycles, carpooling, vanpooling
“The university has experienced unprecedented growth over the last few years,” Director of Parking and Transportation Mike Harris said. “With our campus being landlocked and with the additional construction projects on campus it has been determined that we need to reduce traffic as much as possible and create an inner campus that is focused on pedestrians, bicycles, and shuttle buses.”
Completed projects include Chucky Mullins Drive Roundabout, North Parking Garage and most recently the Bell Tower located at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.
