Ole Miss Defeats Saint Louis, 9-2
The Ole Miss diamond Rebels brought the high powered offense from Hoover back with them to Swayze as they defeated Saint Louis 9-2.
Ole Miss’ (47-15) offense came to life in the second inning as they overcame a two-run deficit and hit for the cycle in the inning. The Rebels would then never look back.
Saint Louis finds success early in the top of the fourth off of a double by Nick Resser that scored Alex King all the way from first base.
The Billiken’s had two-out base knock back up the middle by Aaron Case that scored Cole Dubet from second base.
Ole Miss did not trail long in the game as Cole Zabowski crushed a two-run bomb to center that brought home Thomas Dillard from first base. After a leadoff walk to open the inning, Chase Cockrell added to the rally with a double that scored Tyler Keenan. Jacob Adams continued the attack on SLU with a triple down the right-field line that brought in Keenan. Olenek scored Adams on a double. Nick Fortes trades places with Olenek on a throwing error. The Rebels took a 6-2 lead over Saint Louis.
The Rebels ace LHP Ryan Rolison had a shaky start to open the game as he allowed one run in both the first and second innings, but settled into the game in the third inning. Rolison worked 7 innings only giving up 2 runs on 4 hits. He retired 13 sluggers to strikeouts and only allowed 3 walks in the game.
Keenan sent a two-run rocket out to center field to put the Rebels up 8-2 in the third inning.
The Billikens ace Miller Hogan worked three innings allowing nine runs (6 earned) on nine hits. He allowed two walks and struck out four batters. Saint Louis brought in RHP Connor Lehmann from the pen in the fourth with the bases juiced and allowed a run to come in on a Sacrifice fly by Dillard.
In the eighth, the Rebels brought into the game Max Cioffi from the pen. He gave up a walk and struck out 2 batters.
Saint Louis falls down into the loser bracket and will take on Missouri State at Noon. Ole Miss will return to the diamond to play Tennessee Tech at 4 p.m.
