OHS Theatre Teacher Recognized as Employee of the Year
The Oxford School District (OSD) announced today that theatre teacher John Davenport is the 2018 OSD Employee of the Year. The honor is chosen by fellow Employee of the Week recipients.
Davenport has been in the OHS theatre department since 2001. Earlier this year, he completed his 100th show, Fiddler on the Roof.
“It has been quite a year. I do not know what to make of it honestly,” Davenport said. “Now that we have successfully completed this last round of Fringe, the 100th show, our competition successes…I am ready to step to the back and let the spotlight shine somewhere else for a bit.”
Davenport said he is privileged to receive such an honor from his colleagues.
“ I recognize how fortunate I am to work amongst the talent that is the Oxford School District Faculty and Staff,” he said.
OHS principal Bradley Roberson said Davenport’s unique ability to personalize the theater experience for every child is a talent most educators do not possess.
“Mr. Davenport has used theatre to boost self-confidence, to give students a place to belong, and to influence future career paths,” Roberson said. “He is valuable to all of the Oxford community.”
