A Farewell Tribute to Coach Billy Brewer
On Saturday, friends and family gathered inside the Pavilion at Ole Miss to pay their respects to coach Billy Brewer who passed away a week ago.
During the memorial service for Brewer the Ole Miss Athletic Department had a video tribute playing that showed the coach’s heart, competitive sprit and wit.
Brewer came to play quarterback for Ole Miss under coach Johnny Vaught from 1957-60. He got the call to come coach the Ole Miss Rebels in 1983 to replace Steve Solan who went 20-34-1 in five seasons at the helm. In his first season, he guided the Rebels to an Independence Bowl berth against Air Force. It marked the first regular season winning mark since the 1977 season.
Brewer was at the helm of the Rebels for 11 seasons and guided the team to five postseason bowls. The Rebels won three of those games.
