Rebel Freshman Tyler Keenan Named SEC Player of Week
Ole Miss freshman third baseman Tyler Keenan was tabbed SEC Player of the Week on Monday after the Rebels completed the sweep over No. 16 Auburn on the weekend.
Keenan’s efforts at the play and with his glove were instrumental in the Rebels first SEC sweep of the season. He was 5-for-9 over the week, batting .556 with an astronomical 1.444 slugging percentage thanks to two home runs and two doubles. Keenan scored four runs and drove in six.
On Thursday night, Keenan provided Ole Miss with the key run with a two-out RBI double in the 5-4 win. The next night, he went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBI with a double and a home run, including a 2-for-2 mark off projected top MLB Draft pick Casey Mize. He drove in the first run of Game 2 on two-out single in the second inning and later knocked two-run opposite-field home run off of Mize.
Keenan was not done there, on Saturday he went 1-for-2 at the plate with a walk and a hit by pitch. In the seventh inning, he belted the go ahead home run to end the four-inning scoreless drought and secure a sweep for the Rebels.
On defense, Keenan made several outstanding stabs at the hot corner during the week with six assists and a 1.000 fielding percentage.
The Rebels return to the diamond on Tuesday as they hit the road to face Arkansas State.
