Double Decker "Is Christmas" For Oxford Towing Companies
Oxford drivers beware. According to Double Decker officials, most of the roads on the Square will be closed all day Saturday, and towing is scheduled to start around 4.a.m.
Visit Oxford’s Joe Scott says that the tow truck companies will be on duty and ready to pick up anyone in violation.
“It is Christmas for the tow truck companies,” said Scott. “They all rush in like it’s a gold rush.”
Scott says that parking off the Square will be more convenient. “What we’d recommend is parking over at the Oxford High School,” Scott said.
Oxford High School is located on Sisk Avenue, and Scott says starting there will make your festival experience more fun.
“There will be a big open parking lot and we’ll have shuttles moving between Oxford High School and the Square all day,” he said. “Those shuttles will be $5 to ride and it’ll be a quick way to travel back and forth without having to look around for somewhere to park.”
Visit Oxford’s Brittney McCoy says anyone who does drive near the Square during Double Decker will find several streets blocked off.
“Beginning Friday the 27th, a portion of North Lamar and Monroe will be closed at 4 a.m,” said McCoy. “I would suggest utilizing the bus transportation that will be available and also carpooling. Then there’s also the Uber, which is a good reliable option to use.”
Scott says that there will be security checkpoints at all street entrances and Visit Oxford will be spreading the word about that and other driving challenges.
“We’re also going to put out Facebook posts to let people know what’s going on,” Scott said.
If anyone needs assistance during the event, festival volunteers can be found in mint green t-shirts. The weekend activities will run from April 27-28. For more information, visit the Double Decker website.
