LOU Leaders Ask Community to Voice Transportation Opinions
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know Oxford just isn’t quite the “small” town that it used to be. With substantial population growth, increased enrollment at the University of Mississippi and – I mean, fill in the blank – growth all across Lafayette County just keeps on booming.
And so do the traffic issues.
Because of the pressure placed on the transportation network, the City of Oxford, Lafayette County and the University of Mississippi have come together to form a master transportation plan. For those who haven’t had a chance to share personal concerns or issues, then your LOU community leaders want to know what you have to say.
“This is something we’re really excited about,” Mayor Robyn Tannehill said. “We would love to have some citizen input. Talk about your experiences – good or bad – that you think of our transportation network.”
Voice your concerns by taking this survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/9K73JTW. The survey will be available until the end of April.
The LOU transportation plan will work as a guide for transportation projects over the next 20 years. City, county and university leaders want to include citizen input, and they want any and every citizen’s voice to be heard as they continue the planning process.
The plan, which is also based on best practices and a technical assessment of the transportation system, will identify existing problems, set priorities for transportation projects and identify short-term and long-term improvements.
Leaders of the LOU community hope to review a draft transportation plan this upcoming fall.
