David Blackburn Named One of Top CEOs in the State

Oxford resident has led construction, real estate companies since 2006

The Blackburn Group CEO, David Blackburn, has been honored by the Mississippi Business Journal as one of the top CEOs in Mississippi.

The 2018 CEO Awards of Mississippi were announced recently at an event held at the Old Capitol Inn in Jackson.

This year’s honorees come from diverse backgrounds, including heads of publicly traded companies, a college president, entrepreneurs and non-profit executive directors.

The Mississippi Business Journal said the recognition spotlights “leaders around the state of Mississippi who demonstrate excellence among the top executives in their field. The CEOs who have helped their companies achieve strong growth and success and have made a profound impact on their company and community.”

The Blackburn Group is a holding company consisting of multiple affiliates including R.J. Allen & Associates, a commercial general construction company; Blackburn Communities, a residential development and property management company; and Fitness Holdings, a group of eight fitness centers throughout the state of Texas. The companies are known for their construction and development of properties in Tennessee, Texas and Mississippi, including the acclaimed 500-acre Oxford Commons master planned community.

Blackburn, 39, has served as CEO of The Blackburn Group since its founding in 2006.

The Blackburn Group’s affiliated companies have been honored by Inc. for five consecutive years in the magazine’s ranking of the fastest-growing private companies in America. The continuous success earned them Inc. Hall of Fame recognition.

Under Blackburn’s leadership, the companies have been honored by the Austin Business Journal and Mississippi Business Journal as Best Places to Work. In addition, Guild Quality recognized it with its highest honor, the Guildmaster Award, after the company received over 90 percent homeowner customer satisfaction in its residential communities.

He and his wife, Karen, reside in Oxford with their two sons, Collins and Niles. He serves on the Board of Governors for the Ole Miss Athletics Foundation, Board of Directors for the Ole Miss Alumni Association, and the Finance/Investment and Capital Needs Committees for St. Peter’s Episcopal Church.
