Family Resource Center’s Jack Gadd and Johnny Flynt

For those who follow Ole Miss Baseball, long time assistant coach Johnny Flynt is still competing in a major league way. This phase of Flynt’s career is counseling families to strengthen the home base. Hottytoddy.com’s Steve Vassallo visited with Flynt recently at Families First’s Oxford location, leaving there with a feeling that Flynt has now entered the World Series of life.

Flynt covers the five counties of Lafayette, Grenada, Marshall, Panola and Yalobusha. He speaks to churches, prisons, civic groups and schools, focusing on the Mission of the Family Resource Center and all that can be offered through the organization. Flynt shared that the Bible passage Colossians 3:18-21 forms the basis of his talks. He stresses that the man is the head of the home, the wife is the heart of the home and the child is the hope of the home.
“If Satan is allowed to destroy the head, the heart and hope will soon follow,” Flynt said.
In addition to Flynt’s previous baseball life (he also pitched for the University of Southern Mississippi for four seasons in college), he pastored at North Oxford Baptist for 28 years, 15 of those as the Youth and Recreation Pastor and another 13 as the Recreation and Administration Pastor.
In 2017, Flynt made 61 presentations in all. His goal is “to impact men by influencing inspiration to all family members.” Added Flynt…
“Be a Godly man daily in the home,” Flynt said. “Men typically fall into one of three areas: tyrants, tenants and tutors. The tyrants abuse, the tenants travel and the tutors teach.”
He indicated that there are more tyrants than the other two types.
Flynt offers solutions with his prescription for change.
“There are four change agents,” Flynt said. “Number one is to look around at your surroundings. Do you like what you see? Number two is to look back, asking yourself, ‘Am I better off today than yesterday?’ Number three, look ahead. Focus on what is needed to do to get better. And number four, look up. Focus on Jesus, the author and finisher of everyone’s faith.”
Flynt will be traveling delivering his inspirational messages this April.

  • Long View Point, Hernando, at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday, April 4
  • Missionary Baptist Church, Courtland, at 11 a.m. Sunday, April 15
  • First Baptist, Holly Springs, at 9 and 10:15 a.m. Sunday, April 29

For groups and churches wishing to schedule Flynt in any of the five counties mentioned previously, he can be reached at 662-816-3966 or via email at johnnyflynt45@gmail.com.
Flynt’s service is yet another feature of how Families First is strengthening our communities and most importantly the home lives of our families!
