Former Ole Miss basketball coach Rob Evans will be honored as an SEC Legend at the SEC Tournament March 7-11 in Saint Louis Missouri. He led the Rebels to a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances and SEC Western Division titles in his time with the program.

Evans compiled an 86-81 record (.515) as head coach of the Rebels from 1993-1998. His 86 victories are the fifth most by a coach in Rebel Basketball history. In 1996-97, Evans led the Rebels to a 20-9 mark, the SEC Western Division title and an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. The 1997 SEC Western Division title was the program’s first-ever regular season championship of any kind, while the NCAA Tournament appearance was the program’s first since 1981. During that 1996-97 season, Evans was named College Hoops Insider National Coach of the Year, while the AP recognized Evans as SEC Coach of the Year.
Evans guided Ole Miss to a 22-7 overall record during the 1997-98 campaign and led the program to its second straight SEC Western Division title. The Rebels also made their second straight NCAA Tournament appearance, the first time ever that Ole Miss played in the NCAA postseason in back-to-back seasons. Evans became a finalist for the 1998 Naismith Coach of the Year award and was selected the NABC District 6 Coach of the Year in a vote by the district’s coaches.
The conference honors former greats from each institution that makes up the 14 member conference. Each SEC basketball legend will be recognized at halftime of his institution’s first game at the tournament. This season marks the 20th year of the Allstate SEC Basketball Legends program.
