The Ole Miss Rebels struggled in the Lone Star State Saturday as they fell to Texas 85-72. A dominating performance by Dominik Olejniczak and Deandre Burnett still kept the Rebels in the game.
Texas jumped out to an early 6-0 lead over the Rebels (11-10) before Burnett drained back-to-back 3 pointers to cut the lead down to 7-6. Both teams traded leads for the first seven minutes of the game before the Longhorns went on a 9-0 run to a 10-point advantage.
The Longhorns took a 45-36 advantage into the locker rooms at halftime.
Olejeniczak dominated the inside paint for the Rebels by making his first five shots in the game. He finished the game with 16 points.
Burnett led the team in scoring with 21 points against the Longhorns.
Texas only allowed the Rebels to cut the lead down to a six-point margin in the second half, the Longhorns biggest lead against Ole Miss was 18 points.
Ole Miss had trouble containing Texas’ big man Mohamed Bamba who scored 25 points with 15 rebounds and four blocks in the game. The Rebels lost two of their big men, Bruce Stevens and Justas Furmanavicious, to foul trouble as they left with more than six minutes left in the game.
Ole Miss returns to the Pavilion Tuesday as they play host to the No. 19 Auburn Tigers. Tip-off is slated for 8 p.m. on the SEC Network.
