Rebels Take a Last-Second 71-69 Loss to Texas A&M
Ole Miss fell in heartbreaking fashion to Texas A&M, losing 71-69 in College Station Tuesday. As the final horn sounded, Breein Tyree put up what could have been the game-winning shot from 25 feet away, only to watch it drop halfway into the net and rim back out.
The Aggies picked up their first conference victory of the season.
Ole Miss (10-8, 3-3 SEC) got major production from Terrence Davis, Tyree and Bruce Stevens in the game. Davis, who came into the game in a slump – shooting just 17 percent from the floor – broke out with 12 points against the Aggies.
Stevens continued to be a dominating force in the starting lineup up for the Rebels with 20 points. Tyree added 11 points of his own.
The Rebels were very aggressive in the paint in the first half of the game, getting to the line eight times and connecting on every attempt.
At the half, Texas A&M pulled out to its largest lead at 45-37.
Ole Miss’ defense cracked down on the A&M offense in the second half by using zone pressure to cut quickly into the eight-point deficit.
Texas A&M played behind the inside presence of Tyler Davis, who scored 20 points and pulled down 8 boards. He was able to get behind the Rebels’ defense three different times for easy buckets.
Ole Miss shot 46 percent from the floor while the Aggies hit 51 percent in the game. Behind the arc A&M connected on 31 percent. The Rebels finished the game at 77 percent from the charity stripe.
The Rebels look to bounce back on Saturday as they travel to Arkansas.
