Is Hugh Freeze angling for a job under former rival Nick Saban? Speculation abounds after the former Ole Miss head coach reportedly showed up at the University of Alabama’s football facilities in Tuscaloosa yesterday, as reported by

The site reported late Monday evening that Freeze “was in the football building” on the Alabama campus, just one day after the Crimson Tide’s offensive coordinator, Brian Daboll, said he was taking a job with the NFL’s Buffalo Bills.

Daboll will take over as the Bills’ offensive coordinator after the Tide, under Head Coach Nick Saban, beat Georgia in last week’s NCAA national championship game. Alabama will have to hire its fourth offensive coordinator since 2016.

It’s not clear whether Freeze was there to interview for a job, but many consider him to be an offensive mastermind. CBS Sports reported that Freeze “is interested in any position on the Crimson Tide’s offensive staff.”

During Freeze’s tenure at Ole Miss, the Rebels beat Alabama twice in two years. Freeze resigned from Ole Miss in the wake of a scandal involving phone calls to an escort service. While he was coach, the NCAA launched a prolonged investigation into recruiting violations and eventually found the school guilty of multiple infractions. But while several assistants received show-causes that will hamper their ability to coach for years, Freeze got off lightly—if another school hires him for the 2018 season, he’s only required to sit out the first two conference games.
