Obituary: Funeral Service for William Douglas Sanford to be Held Jan. 12
William Douglas Sanford, 79, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 6, at his home in Oxford.
The funeral service will be held Friday, Jan. 12, at 12:30 p.m. at Christ Presbyterian Church with Rev. Curt Presley officiating. Visitation will begin at 11:30 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place in West Memphis Veterans Cemetery in Memphis at a later date. Waller Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Born in Jackson to Clifton V. and Rowena Susan Puckett Sanford, Mr. Sanford was a retired small business owner and investment banker. He grew up in central Mississippi and was a member of Kappa Sigma at Mississippi State. Mr. Sanford was a veteran of the United States Army Paratroopers and achieved the rank of Army First Lieutenant. He enjoyed reading, gardening and fishing on the Gulf Coast. He was married to Belinda Sanford Ondo.
Mr. Sanford is survived by his daughter, Shea Sanford Shelton and her husband, Chris of Collierville; sons, Doug Sanford and his wife, Terri, of Oxford, and Craig Sanford and his wife, Marcy, of Tampa; brother, Charles Pat Sanford of Columbia, Miss.; and five grandchildren.
Memorial contributions in Mr. Sanford’s memory may be made to Christ Presbyterian Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 921, Oxford, MS 38655.
In honor of Mr. Sanford’s service to our country, the flag of the United States Army will be flown at Waller Funeral Home.
