Rebels Open Conference Play Against South Carolina Sunday
After a bumpy 7-5 start, the Ole Miss men’s basketball team opens up its SEC conference slate on Sunday as they play host to the South Carolina Gamecocks. Tip-off is slated for 5 p.m., and the game will be televised on ESPN 2.
Ole Miss wrapped up its non-conference slate with an 82-59 victory over Bradley before Christmas. Junior Terence Davis led the Rebels in scoring with 25 points in that game. He is averaging 16.1 points per game on the season.
The Rebels have found success this season from downtown by averaging 9.2 three-pointers.
Senior Deandre Burnett ranks third in the SEC and 32nd nationally with a 2.9 assist/turnover ratio; he’s also fourth in the conference in assists per game (4.8), recording 48 assists (6 per game) over the past eight games.
South Carolina is 9-3 on the season. The Gamecocks are rolling into Oxford after a 74-49 victory over Limestone on Wednesday night.
Coach Frank Martin’s squad is led on the court by Chris Sliva, who is averaging 12.8 points per game, while his teammate Frank Booker is putting up 11.1 points a night of his own.
The Gamecocks averaged about 72.6 points through the first 12 games of the season. South Carolina’s defensive intensity only allows opponents to score 63.4 points a game. From beyond the arc, South Carolina is averaging 7.3 three-pointers and giving up right about 6.6.
