Northwest Ranked Seventh in Final NJCAA Football Poll
Following Sunday’s appearance in the Graphic Edge Bowl, Northwest Mississippi Community College has finished the 2017 football season at No. 7 in the NJCAA’s final rankings released Monday.
It marks the fifth top 10 finish in the last eight seasons for the Rangers, who ended the season at 8-3 overall. All three season losses came against teams ranked in the NJCAA’s final top 10 poll (No. 1 EMCC, No. 2 Iowa Western, No. 10 Itawamba).
Northwest opened the year ranked sixth in the NJCAA, eighth in the College Football America 2017 Yearbook, 13th according to Street & Smith’s College Football Preview magazine and 18th by JCGridiron.com.
The Rangers went 3-2 against ranked opponents during the year, including a 61-38 win over then-No. 1 East Mississippi and 33-13 win over then-No. 3 Holmes.
Northwest was one of five teams from the MACJC in the final poll along with No. 1 East Mississippi, No. 9 Jones County, No. 10 Itawamba and No. 11 Hinds.
East Mississippi defeated Arizona Western 31-28 in the Mississippi Bowl to claim the 2017 NJCAA national title.
