Aiden O’Brian Shaw arrived in the world at 4:42 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 25, at the Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi, staking his claim as the first baby born in Oxford’s new hospital.
Aiden, measuring 18 inches and weighing 6 pounds, was welcomed by his mother, Victoria Alford; father, Jeffery Shaw; and brother, Brandon Shaw. The family is from Oxford.
Asked about Aiden being the first baby born in the new hospital, Alford said, “It was kind of shocking to me because … he wasn’t due until December 13.”
Alford said she was happy to have her baby in the new facility, with its spacious rooms and helpful staff.
“It was exciting to have him in the new hospital,” she said. “The staff just makes me feel like I’m in the best hospital. They are friendly and check on me more than enough.”
Alford said she’s fortunate that Aiden has been a quiet baby so far.
“[There’s] not a lot of crying,” Alford said. “He’s just as precious as he can be.”
Dr. Sam Cole delivered Aiden, and Dr. Tanya Fitts served as his pediatrician.
Patients were relocated to the new facility, located at 1100 Belk Boulevard, on Saturday, Nov. 25.
